August Bank Holiday 2011

August Bank Holiday 2011 – delivery information for guest beds and futons.

Be prepared for guests this August Bank Holiday

When preparing for visiting guests it’s always an exciting experience, in anticipation there’s always the busy time of cleaning and preparing a spare room or a comfortable place to sleep. Bank Holiday delivery times should also be at the forefront of the mind, as delivery days and times are affected by the short working week.

The 2011 August Bank Holiday is Monday 29th, so to take delivery of an item ordered online it is strongly recommended to order the previous week well in advance should a delivery issue arise. Over Bank Holidays the road system in the UK is always put to the test as holidaymakers start to travel to their chosen destinations.

In terms of the choice of sleeping solutions for guests, Comfy Living has some recommendations to match to your needs and requirements.

Chair Beds

Chair beds are constructed from a firm foam-like filling and are best suited to children up to the age of around 10 years old. These are often called ‘Z beds’ or ‘flop out beds’ due to the simple nature of construction and children are easily able to use these in their bedrooms.

Futons

For small rooms where space saving is paramount and to accommodate guests would be a struggle with buying a spare bed, consider buying a futon to help with holiday sleepovers. Futons are versatile items of furniture, quickly changing from a sofa to a bed within seconds. Futons are available with a metal or a wooden frame and are suitable for adults of all ages.

Divan beds

Divans are a seen as a permanent addition to a spare room. Budget divans have no storage in the base and come with a mattress suitable for occasional use. Options with upgrading divan beds include storage options (drawers or slide storage) with a mattress which is deeper than a budget range, perhaps to a hand tufted variety, or memory foam.

Easter Sleepover Solutions

If you’re in the middle of a DIY project at home, whilst raising a family and also holding down a full time job, what appears to be a blessing in the form of a Bank Holiday can often turn out to be just as busy as a normal working week. Amidst the scattering of raw materials, rolled up carpets and tape measures, having family over to stay or entertaining the kids could potentially lead to a very squashed household with little room to spare to accommodate guests to sleepover.

There are a few solutions to this situation, depending on what type of visitor you have.
Here are some top tips for space saving ideas when entertaining over Easter:

  • If you’re on a budget and your little ones have invited over the cousins to stop overnight, a cheap and practical bed solution would be a foam cube bed. These handy cubes double as a chair/stool as well as flopping out into a single bed perfect for kids up to the age of around 12. Look to buy a colour that would hide dirt the most – sometimes black is not the best colour, a chocolate brown or tan colour could be a better choice!
  • For older children a larger foam chair bed, or a double sofa bed would be a good consideration. With the low weight of a foam type filling, these fun furniture items are both practical and modern, as well as providing a comfortable sleeping area for teenagers and light adults. If a sofa bed is for a newly decorated child’s bedroom, select a colour that would suit changing tastes as the years go on – a classic navy blue for a boy, and a lavender or pink for a girl.
  • Bunk beds and mid sleepers are very reasonably priced beds for small rooms where space is a premium. Look for a bunk bed with a changeable ladder and that also splits into 2 single beds should the need be required in the future. Mid sleepers are great as an alternative single hi-rise bed, with space underneath for a chair and a small desk for studying and storage. If you choose a standard pine wood, one idea is to paint or varnish the frame to match the bedroom colour scheme.
  • When thinking of space saving adaptable furniture for a living room, futons are a very popular choice. There is a huge variety of futons on the market and the outlay to buy a new futon is economical when you consider how many years you will own one. Whether your taste is for a solid pine wood base, or a sleek silver metal frame, one of the biggest benefits of a futon is the fact that you can replace the mattress whenever you feel like it. Depending on whether this will be for occasional use as a bed, and more as a sofa, or vice versa, take a moment to choose the mattress depth, around 9cm is a standard futon mattress depth, or look for a luxury thicker futon mattress around 14cm deep.
  • Leather sofa beds. Upmarket residences with a minimalist interior design tend to choose a sofa bed with a covering that compliments the surroundings. Leather is always a desirable covering, and materials have developed so much in the last decade that these days you can buy a faux leather sofa bed and it would be difficult to tell the difference between that and real animal hide. National department stores and online sites such as www.comfy-living.co.uk are great places to find a faux leather sofa bed.

So, when Easter comes around this year, remember to be prepared for accommodating guests and visitors and choosing the right kind of dual-use seating and sleeping furniture right the first time round will save many headaches in the future.

Comfy Living new range of Orthopaedic mattresses and bed sets

Comfy Living have expanded their products with a new range of Melissa Orthopaedic mattresses.

A mattress, orthopedic type is designed to actually maintain your body in places it needs support, mainly the spine. The spine is the support structure of an individual’s entire body. The spine supports all parts of the body, from the head to the feet.

After many complaints of backaches and aching muscles, doctors worked with manufacturers in order to produce a mattress that could get rid of this problem. This is the way this mattress, orthopaedic style originated. It is made specifically to help individuals get a comfortable, together with a healthy, night’s sleep.

When laying on a mattress it is very important this main part of the body be fully supported. Having an S shape, one has a curve in the middle of one’s back. The old time mattress was just like a straight board without any special allowance for this part of the spine. A lot of persons have had to see a chiropractor owing to their back problems. Among the first things they may ask is “What type of mattress are you currently sleeping on”? If it is the old kind, it will likely be advised that they change should they want a vast improvement.

The Comfy Living Melissa Orthopaedic divan bed set has a sturdy timber frame with a firm orthopaedic mattress.  The mattress features a 13 gauge spring unit, to provide a firm orthopaedic feel, with deep quilted edge to hold the tradtional fillings in place.  The mattress has, double sided covers so there is no need to turn, with a durable stitch bond cover, made with traditional fillings.

The divan base comes in a range of storage options, from 2 drawer, 4 drawer and even 2 drawers with end slide storage. With next day UK delivery included in the price, it’s no suprise the Melissa range is proving to be very popular with our customers.

Futons made in the UK

Futons are fun!

Futons are the ultimate in space saving furniture with a dual purpose. Futon mattresses are comfy as well as stylish, as they are available to buy in a huge range of colours. Futon mattresses are manufactured by packing layers of materials over each other, usually a mixture of felt and wool. The futon cover is a fixed item; many people simply throw a rug over the futon when it’s in the sofa mode to keep it clean.

Popular futon bases are metal and wood, with the wooden futon bases being cheaper by design. Slats of timber are easily assembled to provide a good supporting frame, one benefit of using timber as a futon base is that you can paint or varnish it a different colour if you wish.

A futon will provide a good night’s sleep for an unexpected guest, and is easy to convert from a sofa to a bed. Children love using futons as the novelty of setting it up and sleeping over at a friend’s house is exciting as a midnight feast.

When the schools break up at term time, 6 weeks of spending time with children could lend to a few frazzled nerves, so break up the tedium with a sleepover and be prepared by buying a new futon online.

Comfy Living offer free next day delivery for mainland UK, so order today and take delivery tomorrow!
